The Worshipful
Company of Farriers

Promoting the welfare of the horse since 1356

Recruitment of a Senior Registrar

Since 1356 the Farriers Company has had a leading responsibility for standards of farriery – the skilful shoeing of equines and the care of the hoof. It combines this with a broader concern for horse welfare and the work of an active City of London Livery Company. The Company wishes to appoint a Senior Registrar to manage and drive forward its role in delivering Farriery qualifications and examinations and to promote the role of the Farriers Company as Head of Profession.

The successful candidate will have managed the delivery of training and professional development as well as the quality assurance and administration of examinations. He/she will have experience of working with regulatory bodies (those directly relevant include OfQual, the Farriers Registration Council and IfATE). Experience at a leadership level in higher education, business or the Armed Forces would all be relevant to the role.

He/she will be highly organised and able to work constructively and diplomatically with a wide range of people from all backgrounds, within and outside the equestrian world. He/she will organise and manage practical and written examinations with due attention to statutory obligations, and report verbally and in writing regularly to the Company’s governing body, the Court and to its sub-committees. He/she will manage an examinations budget working closely with the Company’s Treasurer and its Clerk (the other senior permanent Officer).

The Senior Registrar will also lead the international promotion of the Company’s Higher Examinations, which are already regarded as a global standard. The post will be based in the City of London (some flexible working will be possible) and will sometimes involve travel both in the UK and overseas. A clean UK driving licence is a requirement.

The appointment is subject to a probationary period of six months.  An initial salary in the range £52,000-£58,000 (depending on experience and qualifications) is offered to the right candidate.

Please apply with a detailed CV and covering letter setting out your experience and suitability for the post to: applications@wcf.org.uk
