The Worshipful Company of Farriers was delighted to attend National Racehorse Week 2026 at its London pop-up event in St James’s Churchyard, Piccadilly on Wednesday 26 August 2026.
The Master, John Cowper-Coles, and Renter Warden Elect Christopher Wynterbee-Robey, together with Past Master Carl Bettison, visited the event, which brought racehorses into the heart of London and offered members of the public the opportunity to learn more about the care, skill and expertise involved in looking after them.
Farriery formed an important part of the day, with demonstrations giving visitors a close-up view of the craft and an opportunity to understand more about the farrier’s role in maintaining the health, welfare and performance of the horse.
Under the expert guidance of farrier Sam Dracott, the Master and Renter Warden Elect also had the opportunity to try their hand at some of the skills involved in shoeing a horse.
For the Worshipful Company of Farriers, events such as this are a valuable way of promoting greater understanding of the craft and highlighting the vital contribution made by skilled farriers across the wider equine sector.
