Upholding Standards, Advancing Knowledge – The WCF’s Role in Farriers’ CPD

As part of its historic commitment to promoting and maintaining the highest standards in farriery, the Worshipful Company of Farriers (WCF) supports the professional development of all practising farriers through a programme of Craft Committee-led Continuing Professional Development (CPD) events.

The WCF’s Commitment to the Craft

These programmes are designed to enhance farriers’ knowledge, develop their skills and ensure the highest standards of care for horses.

The Importance of CPD

The farriery profession requires continuous learning. CPD ensures that farriers keep pace with advancements in techniques, materials and professional practice. This benefits not only the farrier, but the horse-owning public, by ensuring that those engaged in the craft uphold the highest standards of welfare, safety and service.

Participation in CPD also provides reassurance to clients and the wider industry that a farrier is maintaining their professional knowledge and remaining current in their practice.

Meeting Regulatory Requirements

While the Farriers Registration Council (FRC) sets the regulatory requirement for CPD, the Worshipful Company of Farriers plays an active role in supporting farriers to meet these obligations. Since 2014, it has been mandatory for Approved Training Farriers to complete a minimum of 10 CPD points annually, with all newly Registered Farriers required to do so from 2016.

The WCF encourages all farriers to take full advantage of its events and resources as part of their commitment to maintaining professional standards.

How to Take Part

Further information on the regulatory framework for CPD, including approved activities and recording CPD points, is available via the Farriers Registration Council (FRC) website.
