Bombardier Abbie Robinson Wyss CMF, the first woman in the British Army to fully qualify as a military farrier, recently represented both the Army and the Worshipful Company of Farriers at the RAF Benson “See What You Can Be Day 2026.”

Abbie attended alongside Squadron Leader Helen R. Grantham and a wide range of female professionals, all speaking to approximately 200 schoolgirls about their careers, experiences, and the opportunities open to them. Squadron Leader Grantham, wife of Liveryman Captain Harry Grantham RHA, has enjoyed a distinguished career and was the first female ever to be embedded within an Arabic country’s military, serving for two years with the Royal Air Force of Oman.

Abbie’s contribution made a particularly strong impression. Following her presentation, one 13-year-old girl was heard asking her teacher, “Can I be a Farrier?” Reassured that she certainly could, the pupil responded with delight: “I had never dreamt that was a possibility.”

The moment was a powerful reminder of the importance of visible role models and the inspiration that can come from meeting those who have broken new ground in their profession.

Squadron Leader Grantham praised Abbie highly, noting that she was a credit both to herself and to the farriery profession. Such was the success of the day that the organisers have already asked whether she might return again next year.

The Worshipful Company of Farriers warmly congratulates Bombardier Robinson Wyss on continuing to promote the craft and inspire the next generation.
