Diploma WCF International (DipWCF(Int))
Overview
This examination is a non-regulated examination at level 4. The Diploma of the Worshipful Company of Farriers International (DipWCF (Int) is a globally respected qualification that assesses a farrier’s competence, knowledge, and practical skill to the Livery approved standard.
Please note that the Diploma WCF (International) is not a registrable qualification for approval onto the Farriers Registration Council register. The entry qualification is now the Level 3 Apprenticeship in Farriery. For further information please contact the Farriers Registration Council.
The DipWCF (Int) is designed to ensure that farriers have:

A strong foundation in hoof anatomy, physiology, and biomechanics

The practical ability to trim, shoe, and assess horses safely and effectively
-
The theoretical understanding needed to make informed decisions about hoof care
-
The professional standards required to work independently as a qualified farrier
The exam assesses both practical craftsmanship and theoretical knowledge.
Entry requirements
Before attempting the DipWCF, candidates are expected to have:

Significant handson experience in trimming and shoeing

Demonstrated competence in forgework and shoemaking

Exposure to a variety of horses, disciplines, and hoof conditions

This ensures candidates can work safely, independently, and to a professional standard.

Candidates must have 4 years’ practical shoeing experience.
In order to apply you’ll need to complete an application form and provide evidence of
the following:

Shoeing experience via:

Two references from clients and two professional references (one which must be from a Vet).

Accounts will be required (1 year).

Candidate identification (passport, national security card etc).
Please note, all fees are for examinations to be taken in the 2026 calendar year and are net of VAT or taxes paid locally. Examination fees for UK examinations must be paid by the published deadline date. Thereafter the Late Fee of £100 must be paid in addition for exam registration.
