Important message about equine movements after 1 January

From 1 January 2021 there will be new requirements for moving equines from the European Union (EU) to Great Britain (GB). It is very important that all within the industry understand these requirements and take action to comply with them.

It has been agreed that unregistered equines travelling from the European Union (EU) to Great Britain (GB) must be kept on a holding in the EU for 40 days prior to travel. This means that for any movements on 1 January 2021, an unregistered equine must be on an EU holding from 22 November 2020. These 40 days of residency and other new requirements support the commitment of the United Kingdom, to maintain the highest animal health and welfare standards after the end of the Transition Period.

Further information and guidance on the requirements for Importing Equines from the European Union after the end of the Transition Period can be found here on gov.uk.
