The Almoner Role

The Worshipful Company of Farriers appoints an Almoner who works very closely with the Trustees of The Worshipful Company of Farriers Charitable Trust.

The Almoner is available to anyone in the registered farriers community who find themselves and their families in need of financial and emotional support.

Applications are made in the first instance to the Clerk who assesses the need and then forwards the details onto the Almoner.   The Almoner then works very closely with the applicant to compile a report, including supporting documentation as required, which the Almoner then submits to the Charitable Trust board of Trustees.

In assessing the application, the Trustees may require the Almoner to provide further information and it is the Almoner’s responsibility to liaise with the applicant and the Trustees in a sensitive and understanding manner.

Once the Trustees have given their decision the Almoner then communicates that decision to the applicant.   Applications accepted by the Trustees have ranged from providing practical support to those Farriers who have suffered accidents which in some cases have been life changing, as well as assisting the bereaved.

The Almoner role is governed by the Charitable Trust’s main theme of:-
The relief of poverty, hardship, sickness and suffering among farriers and their spouses, widows or widowers, issue of such persons and those who in the opinion of the trustee are dependants of farriers or prospective farriers or of deceased Farriers.

Applications for assistance should in the first instance be directed in writing to:-
The Clerk to The Worshipful Company of Farriers at Magnesia House, 6 Playhouse Yard, London EC4V 5EX
