Welcome

The membership of the Worshipful Company of Farriers consists of craft farriers, veterinary surgeons and an amalgam of persons committed to the welfare of the Horse, the continuing of the craft and contributing to the success of the City of London. Founded in 1605, the Worshipful Company of Farriers is number 55 on the register of the City of London Livery Companies.

Master of The Company 2011-2012, Stephen J W Scott

Stephen Scott was admitted as a Liveryman of the Farriers Company in 1985 (two years before his father, Arnold Scott, became Master) and was elected onto the Court in 2004.

He was educated at Dulwich College and served his articles of clerkship as a solicitor in Gray’s Inn. After qualification, Stephen joined a firm of solicitors in Dorchester, Dorset with whom he stayed for over 20 years, the last eight years as senior partner. He was elected President of the Dorset Law Society in 1991/92.

In 1994 Stephen was appointed a full time Employment Judge and continues to sit part time following his semi-retirement in 2008.

Stephen and his wife, Stella, live in Winchester. They have two children: Camilla who is a primary school teacher in London and Tim who is commercial director of a motor racing team.

Stephen has an interest in all sport, particularly rugby, cricket and motor racing. He played rugby for the Old Alleynians and he and Stella are members of Harlequins rugby club. Stephen was a founder member of Goodwood Road Racing Club. His other interests include classic cars, books, theatre and cinema, classical music and French wine, but not necessarily in that order. His vices include collecting motor racing books and automobilia.
